IWS M&E shortlisted for industry award

Integrated Water Services Mechanical and Electrical (IWS M&E), a leading provider of specialist services to the water and wastewater sector, and part of South Staffordshire Plc, is thrilled to announce its shortlisting for the Water Industry Awards 2026.

The Water Industry Awards, organised by Utility Week, brings together frontline talent from across the water sector to celebrate innovation and ambition that benefits the network, customers and the environment.

IWS M&E is a finalist in the new Sustainability Award category, recognising its role in the Water Security and Optimisation project. Teaming up with Wilo, IWS M&E has been enhancing the operational efficiency of borehole pumps to relieve the strain on the UK’s water infrastructure. Working with 12 major water companies, IWS M&E identified pumps that could be upgraded to secure the water supply, spotting opportunities for ground water supply and improving reliability, water supply, energy costs and return on investment.

In total, 260 upgraded pumps were installed by the team using Wilo products and solutions, including Ceram CT coating, optimised selection from K8,10 and 12 pumps, and optimised engineering selection to achieve application requirements, resulting in:

  • an average saving per pump of £39,000 equating to an energy cost saving of £10million per annum across all pumps
  • 85% reduction in pump failure, equating to a total energy saving of over 44 million kWh per annum
  • 39,700 metric tonnes of CO2 saved per annum, based on combined energy supply

This is the third occasion that IWS M&E has received recognition in relation to its work on borehole operational efficiency, with the team picking up the Sustainable Contribution for a Better World Award at the Pump Industry Awards in 2025 and the award for Water Security and Optimisation at the Wilo Group Ecolution Awards in 2024.

Mike Williams, Divisional Director of IWS M&E commented: “Being named a finalist in the Sustainability Award category is a proud moment for our team. We’re delighted to see the project continue to gain recognition and we celebrate the impact our work is having on strengthening the UK’s water resilience while reducing energy use and operational costs.”

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Birmingham on Wednesday 24 June.
