Integrated Water Services Mechanical and Electrical (IWS M&E) is thrilled to announce that it has walked away with a well-deserved win at the prestigious Wilo Ecolution Awards 2024.
The Wilo Group is one of the world’s leading premium suppliers of pumps and pump systems for building services, water management and the industrial sector. The Group’s annual Ecolution Awards recognise innovative projects in water management that have broken new, future-proof ground with the use of Wilo products, systems and solutions.
IWS M&E, with significant contributions from sister company G Stow, won the award for Water Security and Optimisation, which proudly celebrates its work on optimising the operational efficiency of borehole pumps. The team identified pumps that could be upgraded to secure the water supply for a significant proportion of the UK’s water companies, spotting opportunities for ground water supply, and improving reliability, water supply, energy costs, and return on investment.
The team met the criteria of the award by fulfilling its three project objectives: increasing energy efficiency, enhancing operational reliability and exceeding environmental requirements.
In total, 260 upgraded pumps were installed by the team using Wilo products and solutions, including Ceram CT coating, optimised selection from K8,10 and 12 pumps, and optimised engineering selection to achieve application requirements, resulting in:
- an average saving per pump of £39,000 equating to an energy cost saving of £10million per annum across all pumps
- 85% reduction in pump failure, equating to a total energy saving of over 44million kWh per annum
- 39,700 metric tonnes of CO2 saved per annum, based on combined energy supply.
The award was presented at a glittering awards ceremony on Thursday 5 December at the Wilo Park company headquarters in Dortmund, Germany.
Dean Adams, IWS M&E operations director, collected the award. He commented: “We are delighted to see our work improving pump operational efficiency recognised with this prestigious award. We hope to continue this project with other water companies to help save energy and reduce CO2 emissions for the benefit of the environment.”
