National Apprenticeship Week 2024

This week is National Apprenticeship Week, an opportunity for us to celebrate and recognise the positive impact apprenticeships have on businesses and individuals. Apprenticeships are a great way to bring people into the industry and offer them the chance to build a career for life. Apprenticeships combine real work with training and study towards a qualification and the knowledge learned is put straight into practice whilst earning a salary.

We have several colleagues at IWS M&E who have their own experiences of apprenticeships. Click on a case study below to find out more.

Mark Waddilove, Head of Operations

I started a mechanical apprenticeship with South Staffordshire Water (SSW) in July ‘95 at 16 years of age. The apprenticeship involved six months of initial training off-site, learning the fundamentals. Having completed this I was then back at work learning about the operation and maintenance of a SSW pumping plant. My off-site training continued with one day a week attendance at college, completing numerous City & Guilds Qualifications. I completed an NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 as part of the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in engineering maintenance criteria.

I am a recruitment coordinator for South Staffordshire Plc and I see the apprenticeship recruitment process through from advert to offer. Apprenticeships are a great way to bring young people into the business and get them interested in the industry by showing them different areas of work and offering them the chance to build a career for life in the area that interests them.
