Inspiring the next generation of plumbers

What started as an ordinary day at work for Ryan Jamieson turned out to be his most enjoyable day on the job so far, as he brought a primary school careers project to life.

Plumber and Fitter, Ryan, was carrying out maintenance works on a classroom sink in Luncarty Primary School, Scotland. The children were eager to find out more about what ‘Ryan the Plumber’ was doing in their classroom, so after he had completed his work, the teacher invited Ryan to speak to the class about his role as part of their careers project.

Ryan, who has been with IWS Water Hygiene for three months, spent 30 minutes taking part in a Q&A session and showing his tools. The children showed much interest and curiosity in his role, asking a variety of questions such as ‘How does a toilet get fixed?’, ‘Where does water come from?’ and ‘How much does a plumber get paid?’.

Following the Q&A, the children created some works of art featuring their idol, ‘Ryan the Plumber’ to show their appreciation and admiration for Ryan and the important work he does.

Ryan commented: “The experience with the children brightened up my day and is my favourite experience with the company so far. Each child put their hand up and asked a question and I felt proud to explain what I do.”
